Bumble

A single app for date, bff and bizz

OVERVIEW

Bumble was first founded to challenge the antiquated rules of dating. Now, Bumble empowers users to connect with confidence whether dating, networking, or meeting friends online. Bumble has made it not only necessary but acceptable for women to make the first move, shaking up outdated gender norms.

The aim of this project was to solve users problems which they are facing while using the app like fake profile, long scrolling for info and notification bug.
In additional I have added some new features to make the app more reliable and user friendly

The Problem

To much of fake profiles can make user loose of trust on app and confidence.

It’s sometime very frustrating for a user to scroll down and look for the location and distance.

Notification pop-up every time making my screen grey and freezes and needs to restart the mobile to get back into normal.

User Research

A detailed research was done by understanding what users are facing the main issues and problems while using bumble.
My research encompassed –

  • Users are facing grey screen errors issue whenever the notification pop-up
  • Fake profiles are creating frustration point into user
  • Account once go deleted then it’s getting hard to retrieve back for many users
  • Undo swipe feature is behind the paywall now is a major pain point for many users

Qualitative Interviews

User research was quintessential. The problems and issues which users are facing are need to be interact with one another. In order to achieve that, I gathered as much as I could from the end users to understand the problems they facing and how they see the app making a difference in optimizing pain areas.

“Whenever i gets a notification pop-up from bumble and as i click on it, My screen always turns into grey and its really hard to get back into normal and unfortunately i have to restart and reboot my phone always.’’

Insights

After conducting countless user interviews, contextual inquiry and analyzing the gathered data, I was able to categorize the insights into these
3 categories

Verification

  • Large community with around 45M users all over the world
  • Not all users are verified and using fake profiles
  • Verification needs to be done for new and existing profiles

Notifications

  • Everyday getting notifications for
    matches, offers and messages
  • Difficult to access notification access
    when click on it

Location Info

  • Location info and distance at bottom
    are pain point for user to scroll every time making user to scroll every profile.

Conceptualization

I started creating the information architecture and low-fi concepts for primary use cases. After that i began to conduct usability tests with the low-fidelity mockups. Once i had confidence in the design, I began digitalizing designs.

The solution

Bumble allows dating more ease and simple to connect people around you. Getting to know verified folks with exact location and distance makes it more reliable.

Verified secured Profiles

New and existing profiles to be verified to
ensure all member’s are real and opt out fakes.

Profile Current location and distance at top rather than at bottom.

Additional Concept Feature

Language Translator

User when travelling in travel mode. They can use newly added language translator feature when meeting new person by checking the user language spoken under profile. They can easily translate language in chat screen. This way the user can easily communicate with new people in new places while using travel mode.

Project Learnings

  1. Seek out feedback and continually

Learn how to create useful interview questions and conduct interviews correctly, and then explore the user’s answers more deeply.

2. Listen to users

The trouble starts after the app updates. After each updates some functionality and api creates problems with many users
which later becomes frustrating point. Listen to users and find proper solutions to make app more user friendly
